The Beauty Of The Angel Trumpet

Brugmansia, better known as the Angel's Trumpet is a variety of flowering plants from South America.  There are several groups in this species, all bearing an elegant and fragrant bloom similar to a trumpet.  These sweet smelling blooms release their aroma in the late afternoon until early morning the next day.  Despite their elegant beauty and colorful blooms, they are quite toxic, with each part containing a certain amount of poison.

Angel's Trumpets can be grown in any garden in full sun or shade, but they are a tropical plant and can not survive the cold climate.  However, if the roots are protected, they will return again the next year to add their beauty to your flower garden.  You can also root the stems for transplanting in other areas of your garden.  To speed up the rooting process, you can add root enhancer to the water, and in a short time you will have rooted plants to share with your friends.

There are several steps in keeping your angel trumpets healthy and producing well.  They like moist soil, warm days, and cool nights. This is why their peak season is in the early fall. You can grow angel trumpets in containers, and they are a perfect addition to any patio or porch.  However, you will need to water these plants daily during the hot summer months.  Use a good fertilizer and apply at least every two weeks.  Container plants thrive better when a water soluble fertilizer is used, while a granular is best for the ones that are planted directly into the soil.  Add granular ammonia to maintain a bright and vibrant color.

Any flower garden with Angel's Trumpets is a real eye catcher.  Their colorful blooms of yellow, pink, and white hang elegantly and add charm to any garden area.  You can't go wrong with the Angel's Trumpet.  They will always be a welcome and inviting flowering plant for your outside area.
